Our instruments from India are supplied to meet the following needs:
1) That of a beginning student who needs to learn the basics of playing without the expense of rental, the disappointments of a used horn (dents, smell, chipping, etc).
2) That of the advanced player who needs an extra practice horn for home use or marching horn.
3) The doubler who might rarely need the instrument and the expense of a professional model. This could include the music major who may need to learn multiple instruments with the obvious expense.
4) Anyone else who might want an economical instruments.
These instruments are not perfect:
For these great savings, these instruments aren't always perfect. They have a lot of hand labor involved with-out the sophisticated tooling in many US instruments:
1) Some of the solder joints may show slight bleed.
2) There are sometimes minor surface defects.
3) There is usually only one spit valve.
4) Some extra cleaning of valves and surface may be required on arriva.
The cases are not deluxe:
The cases are simple hard boxes. They will not take an under the plane or bus trip or having the instrument thrown around. A separate mouthpiece storage is recommended. On the other hand they are light weight which is a great advantage to the young player.
In summary, we find that these are fantastic values in instruments and should serve their purpose well, however we did not want to pretend that these instruments were on par with the ones made by US manufacturers like Getzen, King, Bach, Benge, and Olds. However for the entry level pricing, we think they will serve their stated purpose quite well. If however, you're looking for perfection or a "standard" horn, may I suggest the Getzen 300 line for the beginner. Realize that these horns new may be 3 to 5 times more expensive then my horns here. I just wanted to make sure that you understood what you were buying BEFORE it arrived.
FAQ:
1) I'm a professional player and need a horn for a digital recording which I'm playing lead, do you think the pocket trumpet would be a good idea.
Ans: No.
2) Hi! I'm a 6th grader starting band. I like football also and don't know if I'll play after the first year of school. Do you think one of your horns would be good for me.
Ans: Yes
3) Do the baritones and euphoniums have a 4th valve
Ans: No
4) I need a practice trumpet I can throw in my backpack to take with me so I can go to the practice room between classes.
Ans: Pocket Trumpet
5) Hi, I'm a trumpet player, but I want to double on low brass. What do you think?
Ans: Valve Trombone.
6) I'm about to go on a cross country tour with a marching band this summer, will your cases hold up and keep that horn protected.
Ans: Nope
7) I'm using my school euphonium, but I have to share it with 6 other periods, any ideas?
Ans: Our Euphonium would be perfect for you. Use the school instrument while at school, bring your mouthpiece with you and use your own euphonium at home, and use which one you prefer for concerts.
8) Is your pocket trumpet fun to play?
Ans: It's a blast
9) I like to play in the high trumpet range, what do you recommend.
Ans: The deluxe B flat trumpet screams, and I mean SCREAMS!
10) I want to know the exact manufacturing process, all the specifications, the brand and number of your instruments and a full chromatic analysis of your horns.
Ans: So would I
11) Why are you selling these instruments anyhow?
Ans: I don't want to have any kid NOT able to play simply because of high rental prices or purchase price. I don't want the low brass player, not to practice because they can't afford their own horn for home use, or it's too heavy to carry back and forth. I want to help college players have an extra horn available for practice when they're at school and not being able to practice because they'd have to lug their higher priced horn back and forth from home, apartment or dorm rooms. I know from personal experience how a musical education can be hindered by lack of access to instruments due to cost or weight and distance.
